Te Kotare

In loving memory of

Jenny Shearer

Welcome to:
Te Kōtare Legacy Project

“What lies behind my dream is a passion I’ve had since studying a biculturalism paper at University.  It’s a passion for all children in New Zealand to grow up experiencing Māori culture as something they can feel comfortable within, enjoy, participate in, and feel confident operating within.”

(Jenny, 2014)

Te Kōtare - The Kingfisher - is the name of our project to produce the work of Jenny Shearer.

Initially the aim of this project, was to produce a CD of the waiata that Jenny wrote. This was part of her dream before she tragically passed away in 2015.

Now our dream is to see Jenny's waiata sung and taught in Early Childhood Centres and Primary schools across the country.

Thanks to the students at CoCA Massey, we have been able to develop a resource package for Jenny's waiata, ready for them to be taught in Early Childhood Centres and Primary schools across the country.

This resource package includes teaching materials such as an A3 song book with lyrics, chords, and translations; Sing-along animated videos and a teaching guide with meanings behind the waiata.

You can view a taster of our resource package here

If you like what you see, you can pre-order a resource package for an education centre of your choice here.
